Start with the exact place, then work outward to the comfort and style of the accommodation. Ask whether the accommodation is inside the reserve, within a named conservancy or outside those areas. Record the answer beside the camp name. Then identify where its included wildlife activities take place. A stay in one setting may arrange visits to another, but those visits should be explicit in the itinerary rather than assumed from the use of the word Mara.

Separate the room from the daily arrangements
Read the rate description for meals, drinks, transfers, activities and fees as separate items. If a term is unclear, ask for it to be explained in writing. A package may include scheduled drives but have different arrangements for a private vehicle, an additional reserve visit or a change to the arrival time. Consider what a normal day would feel like at that particular base. Where does the drive begin? When do you return? Is time at camp part of the experience you want, or are you planning a full day away? Read the Triangle information carefully
The Mara Conservancy provides a camps and lodges page explaining accommodation in relation to the Triangle. It also makes clear that the Conservancy itself is responsible for park management and is not the operator of the accommodation. Use the manager’s information for geographical context, then obtain the booking details from the actual camp or lodge.
The distinction between a manager, an accommodation business and a booking intermediary matters when you need an answer. Confirm which party takes your payment, who supplies the stay and who is responsible for transfers. Keep the operator’s own conditions with the booking confirmation. A directory listing or an editorial mention on this site does not create an accommodation reservation.
Check the arrival route against your first night
If travelling by road, ask the accommodation and driver to agree the intended arrival route and realistic timing for the conditions. If flying, confirm the precise airstrip and who meets the flight. The nearest name on a general map is not sufficient evidence that the transfer is included or that it suits the camp’s arrangements.
Give the first day some breathing space. A late arrival followed by an ambitious activity plan can turn ordinary travel delays into disappointment. Ask specific questions about comfort and access
Describe any access or practical needs directly to the accommodation: steps, walking distances, room layout, bathroom arrangement or assistance with a vehicle. Ask for current details about the actual room or route you would use. Broad labels do not replace a conversation about the features that matter to you, and this guide has not audited individual properties for accessibility.
Finally, compare the stay with the purpose of your visit. A base near the area you want to understand may be more useful than moving nightly to collect different camp experiences. Read the conservancy context and keep reserve visits clearly identified. Provider listings can include wider Kenya, so check that the named property and activities relate to your chosen part of the Mara before proceeding.
